The Problem With Land Acknowledgements
The Scriptures teach that the entire earth belongs to God by right of creation: “The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein” (Ps 24:1). God is the sole proprietor, and we are all his tenants.
God assigns nations their lands by his sovereign providence. He “made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place” (Acts 17:26). He moves peoples according to his will. The boundaries of nations are fluid across history, not fixed by ancestral occupation. When God settles a people in a land over the course of centuries, that settlement becomes their legitimate possession.
Statement on Bill C-9
The Bible is not hate literature. It is a love letter. The movement of Scripture, from creation to fall to redemption to consummation, is the story of a God who refuses to abandon the creatures he has made. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (John 3:16–17). That is the point of the entire Bible. God made the world. God loves the world. God entered the world to rescue it. If that is hatred, then the word has lost all meaning.
An Open Letter To Our Fellow Canadians
This bill is not just an attack on our constitutionally protected right to freely criticize the decisions of Parliament, since we are all equally subject to higher law (freedom of speech), but also an attack on the Christian’s God-given right to freely worship, according to our denominational distinctives and convictions (freedom of religion and conscience).
Why Vestments?
Originally, Scottish Presbyterian clergy wore a white cravat (neck scarf) to identify themselves as ministering in the office of elder-pastor. To this was added preaching tabs to be worn whilst in the pulpit. As time passed, this was simplified to the white clerical collar we now see ministers wear.
Why Vestments?
These are the robes of heaven.
Indeed, the reason they are white is that they represent the pure and complete obedience of Christ Jesus in the place of all God’s elect, who alone ensures that rebel-sinners are reconciled to their most holy God, as they cling to Him with the empty hand of repentant faith (Rom. 5:9-10).
